But you can't AV now :P 375 isn't enough to OHK anything except EWAR scouts and militia mediums.
The damage and having one shot was the thing that made it shine, and now, it's gone. GG, you made a good sniper rifle useless. |

GG, you made a good sniper rifle useless. Does it still have the higher than normal headshot modifier? If so, learn to head shot... also, damage mods. You're a sniper, you won't need shields. Because getting headshots on a moving target on a game that has enough frames per second to count on your hands is easy.
Why use the Roden now when you have a Thale's? |

Honestly, some of the snipers I play with, those that do it fervently, can get headshots on moving targets. Albeit, maybe 10-20% of the time, but enough to matter and bring up the point (i.e. above background noise). As well, snipers, to be useful to a team, do a couple of tasks 1) point control (target is stationary; if a scout, a damage mod or two will 1 shot them regardless of placement) 2) lay of the land information and troop maneuvers (damage not necessary here, but zoom helps) 3) help remove enemies from the battlefield during large pushes... you can do this by killing, or what might be a solely unique idea that you're missing, damaging one or two of them enough that your assaults can easily kill them, stagger the push so that less filter in at once giving the assaults an easier time, or causing them to partially halt the push and retreat I still see the use for the Rodens. 1) I meant difficult, not impossible.
2) there's nothing a Thale's can't do better than a Rodens now, which is what I was emphasizing.
For IWS, no. Bandaid for what exactly? If it broke, don't fix it. |

Now, see, here is where your logic is flawed. To assume there should be a shining light amongst every weapon tree is wrong... the Roden is still very useful as a one shot weapon, but to assume it has to be flat out better thanks to an ultra-high damage is wrong. The same logic should be applied to the SCR and aSCR as well, but sadly, those aren't on the current to-do. However, with the current lowering of damage, the weapon should have been made more available and maybe given a 2nd round in the clip, but it wouldn't be something I would, personally complain about and say the weapon is dead / no longer useful in any situation (as some have said in here). With damage mods and prof, and the ultra high head shot modifier, it is still a one shot weapon... just don't expect it to come from a body shot. Except, it wasn't BETTER. It was DIFFERENT.
It was better at dealing raw damage in a single hit, but you're not going to kill a Sentinel with it unless it was a headshot.
The Thale's was (and now is) better at killing tanked up targets because it was able to deal damage faster because it didn't have to reload after every shot.
Also, if you have it a second shot, not only would it still be useless compared to a Thale's (again because similar damage and lol 4 shots more per reload), but you would take out its originality. It was supposed to be a high risk, high reward sniper (miss a shot or not killing them instantly usually meant they would get away). This is why it was rare.
Let me say this one more time, so that you understand....
Roden is now very close in damage difference to a Thale's per shot, with 4 less shots per clip. Anything a Roden can do, a Thale's, Charge, or even a tactical can do better.
Recon? Choose any sniper. Assassination and point defence? Thale's. Popping uplinks? Any sniper, really.
Those are the only things viable for a Sniper, and literally almost every other sniper rifle in the game can outperform the once lethal, original Sniper Rifle. |
